July 22, 2019

Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to Yukika Amano, the widow of Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on his passing.

In his message, the Russian leader stressed that Russia will remember Yukiya Amano as an outstanding diplomat and dedicated supporter of strengthening international security and stability.

The President of Russia praised Yukiya Amano’s significant personal contribution to increasing IAEA’s efficiency, his proactive efforts as the leader of the organisation on developing peaceful nuclear energy and reinforcing the non-proliferation regime.

“I personally met with Yukiya Amano many times and always admired his wisdom and foresight, and his ability to make carefully weighed decisions during some of the most complicated circumstances,” Vladimir Putin noted in his message of condolences.
