The message reads, in part:

“The establishment of the Tyumen Region back in 1944, with Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets autonomous areas as its parts, opened a new chapter in the history of exploration of the Urals and Western Siberia. Thanks to your predecessors’ courage and hard and creative work, cities, villages, large industrial, transport and social infrastructure facilities, as well as research institutes and design centres were built there in a record-short time, and a reliable base to explore and extract unique natural riches of the region, such as oil and gas above all, was established.

Today, the Tyumen Region is developing dynamically and making an enormous contribution to promoting the Russian fuel and energy complex, agriculture and other key sectors of the Russian economy, hence being rightfully considered a leading region. Of course, there is great respect for the invaluable cultural and spiritual legacy and indigenous traditions of the peoples living in the region since time immemorial.

I am confident that your energy and love for your land will continue to help you in solving your tasks and working creatively and effectively for the prosperity of the Tyumen Region and the entire country.”

Tyumen, the capital of the Tyumen Region, was founded in 1586. Today it is a large industrial centre of Siberia. The Tyumen Region is the third largest Russian region together with Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets autonomous areas extending as far as the Arctic Ocean in the north and the state border in the south. Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets autonomous areas are Russia’s biggest oil and gas producing regions.
