Vladimir Putin sent a message of greeting to participants and guests of the 12th Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Opera Singers.
The message reads, in part:
“It is gratifying that your creative forum, which is intended to support young talent and popularise classical music, is ably fulfilling its lofty mission and is rightfully considered one of the most impressive events in the cultural life of our Northern Capital and the country in general. It provides emerging performers with a truly fantastic opportunity to sing on the glorious stage of the Dmitry Shostakovich St Petersburg Academic Philharmonia, get familiar with the rich history and legendary tradition of the Russian vocal school.
I would note that the contest’s inspirer, the incomparable Elena Obraztsova, would have turned 80 this year. Her unique and generous talent as a great singer and her most profound devotion to art evoke sincere admiration to this day.”
