President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov: Mr President,
We are happy to welcome you to Turkmenistan. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to you for accepting our invitation to a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council.
I would like to thank you for your support for the First Caspian Economic Forum, which included an exhibition of products made in the Caspian states. There were very many participants. Therefore, there are plans for a second forum. I believe the second economic forum, to be held in Russia, will be a success.
I also have a request for you as we plan to place an order for the Aurus sedan. We would like to buy the first batch, if possible, the one that was presented at the exhibition.
There were many other interesting countries there. I hope that we will be able to continue to maintain effective cooperation on partner issues in the best interests of our nations.
I would like to thank you again. Welcome to Ashgabat.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Thank you, Mr President.
I would like to begin our meeting by saying that relations between Russia and Turkmenistan have been developing very well. The Strategic Partnership Agreement, which became effective last year, has yielded the first positive results. I believe this is very important for the further development of our bilateral relations. The results are quite impressive: in the first seven months of this year, our trade has grown by over 62 percent. This is a real and very good indicator.
We are cooperating in many spheres. Thank you for your positive assessment of our new Aurus brand. We are delighted that you like this car.
However, automobile manufacturing and commodity trading are not the only spheres of our cooperation. There are many other areas where we are working together. I will not speak about the energy sector now, because we will discuss it during our talks. The situation has improved and is developing after a long pause. I believe that we have good prospects for cooperation in a variety of spheres.
Thank you for the invitation and good luck with hosting today’s important.
