Anatoly Chubais told President about the completion of a key phase of reforming the electricity system — the implementation of the programme approved by the President and the Russian government cabinet and established by law ”On Electric Power“.

The head of state highlighted the need for the proper monitoring of tariffs in order to protect the rights of citizens.

The main objectives of this reform are to attract investment in the electricity sector and the creation of a competitive electricity market. As a result of this reform, in Russia six wholesale generation companies have been formed on the principle of extraterritoriality, and 14 territorial generation companies have been created.

The functions of managing and coordinating the electric power industry of the company United Energy Systems of Russia have been transferred to the Ministry of Energy of Russia.
