Vladimir Putin congratulated members of the Presidential Council for Codification and Enhancement of Civil Legislation on the Council’s 20th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the Russian Civil Code.
The message reads, in part:
“The Civil Code took force less than a year after the adoption of the Constitution, and this was a huge and vitally important event both for the country’s legal system and for our society in general. The dramatic changes of those years required principally new legal foundations that would ensure legitimacy and order in civil relations. These foundations were developed within a very short period of time. In the past years, the Civil Code has not only stood the test of time, but also convincingly showed that its potential allows for adapting this key document to the conditions of the rapidly changing world.
Today we can safely say that the Russian civil law, with the Civil Code at its core, fully complies with the current level of market relations and everyday life. Both by Russian and global standards, the Civil Code of the Russian Federation is a document of the highest level that meets the requirements of any civilised country governed by the rule of law.”
