Vladimir Putin expressed his deep condolences to Yelena and Galina Gagarin on the occasion of the death of their mother Valentina Gagarina, widow of the world’s first cosmonaut Yuri Gagari.
The message reads in part:
“Valentina Gagarina was a kind, cultured, very decent and wholehearted person. She enjoyed tremendous and well-deserved respect from her near and dear ones as well as her colleagues. And of course, today we just cannot but say how much she did to preserve the memory of the first cosmonaut on Earth, Yuri Gagarin.”
Valentina Gagarina passed away at the age of 84.
