Greetings on opening of 2nd Forum of Indigenous Peoples of North, Siberia and Russian Far East

April 6, 2021

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants and guests of the 2nd Forum of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Russian Far East, which is taking place in Salekhard, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area.

The message reads, in part:

“Representatives of some 200 ethnicities have lived in peace and harmony in Russia ever since the ancient times. This unique diversity of customs, traditions and languages is our invaluable common asset, something we cherish and are sincerely proud of. The unique cultures of the peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East certainly have a special place in this bright palette.

Let me underscore that the state invariably gives priority to supporting the indigenous peoples, preserving their natural habitat and economic activities that have developed over centuries, and their customary way of life. It is important that your association is a reliable partner of the federal and regional authorities in addressing these important issues, bringing together energetic, enthusiastic and dedicated people representing a close-knit family of small indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Russian Far East.”
