Greetings to family of Cosmonaut Georgy Beregovoy

April 15, 2021

Vladimir Putin sent a message to the son, daughter and brother of Pilot-Cosmonaut of the USSR and twice Hero of the Soviet Union Georgy Beregovoy (1921–1995) on his 100th birth anniversary.

The message reads, in part:

“April 15 of the year marking the 60th anniversary of the first manned space mission marks the 100th birth anniversary of twice Hero of the Soviet Union Georgy Beregovoy, an outstanding representative of Soviet and global cosmonautics and a true patriot.

For Georgy Beregovoy, service to our Motherland was the meaning and essence of his entire life. Since childhood, he dreamed of the skies, studied at an air club and a school for military pilots. After graduating, he deployed to the front and bravely fought the enemy until Victory.

After the Great Patriotic War, Georgy Beregovoy won a reputation as a top-class test pilot who completely devoted himself to space exploration and contributed outstanding and truly unforgettable pages to the history of exploring the Universe and to the history of our country. He did not fear difficulties, performed his tasks in a worthy manner and displayed stamina and fortitude even in the most difficult situations.

And, of course, I would like to single out Georgy Beregovoy’s sincere attention to and support for fellow residents of Yenakiyevo, his birthplace.

The glorious biography of this wonderful man, his tremendous contribution to the development of the national space programme and his highly beneficial public activities will always serve as an example for younger generations.”
