Dmitry Medvedev expressed his condolences to President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari over the terrorist attack that caused many deaths

January 2, 2010

The message reads, in part:

“I was deeply shocked to learn about new crimes committed by extremists – a bloody terrorist act during a volleyball game in Lakki Marwat and a string of preceding deadly bombings in Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Muzaffarabad that caused many deaths and injuries among innocent people.

Russian people are outraged by these inhuman acts that have the same bloody pattern of extreme cruelty and a callous disregard for human life readily sacrificed by terrorists to pursue their self-interested goals.

I am confident that Pakistan will be able to stand up to these destructive forces and stop them from getting in the way of efforts to stabilize the situation in the country. I have no doubt that the uncompromising fight against terrorism will continue.

We believe that all those who want to bring peace and stability to Pakistan should stand as one, form a united front in a fight against global terrorist threat, and Pakistan can rely on Russia’s and the entire global community’s support in this fight. We have no doubts that masterminds of these inhuman crimes will be caught and severely punished.

I kindly ask you, Mr President, to pass on my sincere condolences and words of support to the victims’ families, and wishes of speedy recovery to all those affected by these terrorist acts.”
