Vladimir Putin congratulated Mikhail Astashov on winning the men's 3,000m individual pursuit event at the XVI Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
The message reads, in part:
“You were second to none in this 3,000 metre pursuit. You have demonstrated the highest level of training and skill, you have shown a true champion’s character, the ability to fight to the end and win. This gold medal is your outstanding personal achievement and a worthy contribution to the overall result of our wonderful Paralympic team. Well done!”
