July 8, 2008, Toyako Onsen, Hokkaido, Japan

The Russian President and Italian Prime Minister praised the current level of Russian-Italian cooperation and talked about the importance of continuity of their relations and further political contacts.

The President of Russia and Italian Prime Minister devoted considerable time during the talks to the issue of strengthening security and confidence on the European continent. Dmitry Medvedev told Silvio Berlusconi about the Russian approach to the realization of a treaty on European security (the President of Russia put forward the initiative to develop such a treaty on June 5 in Berlin).

During the meeting they also touched on relations between Russia and the European Union, and between Russia and NATO.

Dmitry Medvedev and Silvio Berlusconi also touched on the topic of Russian-Italian cooperation in the cultural and educational spheres, as well as simplifying the visa regime between the two countries and between Russia and the EU.
