Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants in the unveiling of the City of Labour Glory stele in Yekaterinburg.
The message reads, in part:
“The history of our country and the memory of our people will always preserve the heroic deeds of the victors’ generation, those who bravely fought at the front and who performed their duty unceasingly at plants and factories, mines and hospitals while bringing the long-awaited victory nearer. In token of our immeasurable appreciation for the homefront workers, the City of Labour Glory title was established in 2020, in the Year of Memory and Glory.
It is deeply symbolic that Yekaterinburg has become one of the first cities to receive this high distinction. The Urals has always been a major industrial region, the country’s stronghold. After the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the work of numerous defence enterprises began promptly there, as well as the production of tanks and antiaircraft guns, the Katyusha rocket launchers and armoured trains, as well as other weapons and military equipment, crucial medications and uniforms for Red Army soldiers and commanders. The entire city worked to bring the victory closer.
I am sure that this festive event will take its rightful place in the rich palette of events to mark the 300th anniversary of Yekaterinburg, which the Sverdlovsk Region and all of Russia will celebrate soon. It will help to preserve our historical memory, raise our young people in the spirit of patriotism and pride for their ancestors’ labour achievements.”
