Visit to the NOVATEK-Murmansk LNG Construction Centre

July 20, 2023, Belokamenka, Murmansk Region

Vladimir Putin visited the NOVATEK-Murmansk LNG Construction Centre in the village of Belokamenka, Murmansk Region.

Vladimir Putin visited the enterprise’s floors and examined the construction of the second production line for liquefying natural gas (LNG) on gravity-based structures.

NOVATEK Board Chairman Leonid Mikhelson provided the President with explanations; Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Northwestern Federal District Alexander Gutsan and Governor of the Murmansk Region Andrei Chibis also accompanied the head of state.

Vladimir Putin also attended the launch ceremony for the first finished production line for liquefying natural gas on a gravity-based platform (total weight: over 600,000 tonnes), which will be towed along the Northern Sea Route to the Utrenneye field on the Gydan Peninsula (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area). Before the ceremony began, the President had a brief conversation with workers.

At the enterprise, Vladimir Putin held a meeting on utilising the capacity of the LNG Construction Centre.

Today the centre is carrying out the construction of gas-liquefying lines for Novatek’s second large-capacity project: Arctic LNG-2.

The LNG Construction Centre has no analogues in the world. There, global-level technologies for the production of LNG are localised in Russia. The manufacturing of production lines involves hundreds of Russian enterprises and employs over 80,000 across Russia, including over 17,000 jobs in the Murmansk Region. A portion of Russian-made high-tech products was created specifically for this project.
