Dmitry Medvedev met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

July 9, 2008, Toyako, Hokkaido, Japan

The Russian President and the Indian Prime Minister discussed fuel and energy cooperation, notably civilian nuclear projects. Mr Medvedev praised the Indian leaders’ intention to closely interact with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

When discussing trade and economic cooperation, Mr Medvedev and Mr Singh agreed that the growth pace of bilateral trade did not fully correspond to their countries’ potential and the good political relations between them.

Manmohan Singh confirmed the invitation issued to Dmitry Medvedev to attend the closing ceremony of the highly successful Year of Russia in India at the end of 2008. The Prime Minister and the President agreed to instruct their governments to make preparations for the visit.

The Russian President expressed his condolences over the death of Indian diplomats in the recent explosion in Kabul, saying that terrorism was a fundamental threat to both countries.
