Vladimir Putin congratulated the staff of the Tula State Museum of Arms on the museum’s 150th anniversary.
The message reads, in part:
“Tula has for centuries played an important role in strengthening Russian statehood and enhancing the Fatherland’s military and labour glory. A number of special, bright pages in the city’s history are linked with the emergence and development of arms production in Tula. Through their work and talent, many generations of craftsmen, designers, engineers and specialists have created unsurpassed weapons, formed and tempered professional traditions, and forged our country’s defence might.
I am pleased to note that your famous museum – one of Russia’s oldest – makes a great contribution to preserving the invaluable heritage of Russian gunmakers. Its exhibits are unique as they tell the story of legendary battles and victories won by Russian armies from olden times to this day, and they allow us to connect with our country’s military history. I am pleased that the current staff carry the torch lighted by their predecessors, and work with inspiration, effectively and efficiently, and are guided by the latest methods in world museum studies. You are engaged in much-needed scientific and research work; you show concern for expanding the museum’s collections and for implementing informative educational and patriotic programmes that evoke sincere interest from visitors of all ages.”
