On National Unity Day, Vladimir Putin laid flowers at the monument to Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky on Red Square.
Together with representatives of religious denominations, also taking part in the traditional ceremony were members of public and youth organisations, including Popular Front “For Russia,” #WeAreTogether project, Yunarmy movement, Vympel centre, Volunteers of Victory movement, Russian Search Movement, Defenders of the Fatherland foundation and the Movement of the First. The President had a brief conversation with them.
National Unity Day has been celebrated in Russia on November 4 every year since 2005. The holiday, which has the status of a day of military glory, was instituted to commemorate the liberation of Moscow from foreign invaders by the people’s volunteer army led by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky in 1612.
