Vladimir Putin congratulated the Trans-Baikal Territory residents on a memorable date: the 370th anniversary of the Trans-Baikal joining the Russian state.
The message reads, in part:
“The emergence and development of your territory is an important page in the history of Russia, as well as in the history of the exploration of Siberia and the Far East. We will always remember the labours and feats of the pioneers who built cities and villages, as well as the achievements of the many generations of your compatriots who developed the industrial and agricultural potential of the region, and the valour of the Baikal people who defended the Fatherland in the trying years.
Today, you are addressing ambitious tasks to strengthen the economy, develop transport and logistics routes, upgrade education and healthcare, support entrepreneurship and tourism, and preserve unique ecosystems, while making wise use of the rich natural resources you have. I believe that the effective implementation of these plans will serve to improve the quality of life of people, create new jobs, and bring about harmonious social and demographic development
