Vladimir Putin sent greetings to participants in the closing ceremony of the 2023 Memory Watch national campaign, which was timed this year for the 35th anniversary of the first nationwide conference of search groups and the 10th anniversary of the Russian Search Movement.
The message reads, in part:
“Today, the search movement’s noble mission has united a large and close-knit team of caring and proactive people who sincerely love their Fatherland. You are engaged in an extremely important and noble cause, taking part in search expeditions in all regions of our country where WWII raged, including the Adzhimushkai quarry in Kerch, Shumshu Island in the Kuril chain, the Smolensk Region and the islands of Hogland and Sommers in the Gulf of Finland. Your movement’s active members care for military graves and memorials, work in archives, compile Memory Books to help families learn about the fate of their loved ones and spearhead patriotic educational projects.
I would like to emphasise that you are making an invaluable contribution to the study of heroic pages in our history and to the upbringing of our young people. And our people support and open their hearts to your efforts.”
