Vladimir Putin conveyed his condolences to the family and friends of the late Yury Solomin, People’s Artist of the USSR, Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation, and Artistic Director of the Maly Theatre.
The message reads, in part:
“The death of Yury Solomin is a heavy and irreparable loss for our culture, for all of Russia. He was a great actor, a true creator and keeper of the legendary traditions of classical Russian theatre. Yury Solomin’s total devotion to his chosen profession, his inner dignity and integrity earned him the highest recognition and the love of the entire country.
Yury Solomin is no longer with us, but his wonderful creative works and the fond memories of this talented and extraordinarily friendly person remain.”
Yury Solomin died at the age of 88.
He appeared in over 50 theatrical productions, as well as over 50 films and TV series.
Yury Solomin was a full holder of the Order for Service to the Fatherland and the winner of many prestigious professional awards.
