Vladimir Putin congratulated Orthodox Christians and all Russian citizens celebrating Easter Sunday.
The message reads, in part:
“Easter celebrations in our country have rich spiritual traditions which unite millions of people and are passed on from one generation to another, inspiring people to good deeds and aspirations.
It is important to note the constructive and fruitful work of the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian denominations aiming to preserve our immensely rich historical, cultural and spiritual legacy, to strengthen the institution of the family, to educate young people and to promote in society such enduring values and moral reference points as care for your neighbour, charity and compassion. Pastors have always been together with the people. Today, amidst serious challenges, Christian religious organisations provide effective and selfless assistance to those in need of support and attention.”
Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin attended the midnight Easter service at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, led by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
