Vladimir Putin visited the Lakhta Centre pubic and business complex located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland.
Lakhta Centre is a multifunctional complex with modern public spaces, including a planetarium and a concert hall, an embankment with an amphitheatre, bike paths and recreation areas.
The main tower of the complex houses Gazprom headquarters. During the tour, the President was accompanied by Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, who told the President about Gazprom’s infrastructure and cultural projects in St Petersburg.
The architectural dominant of Lakhta Centre is a 462-metre tower, the tallest building in Europe and the northernmost skyscraper in the world. This is the only high-rise building in Europe awarded the highest international certification, LEED Platinum, for environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. The Lakhta Centre skyscraper was also awarded a renowned prize for high-rise buildings, Emporis Skyscraper Awards, for the unusual shape of the tower, advanced green technologies, and outstanding engineering solutions.
