Greetings to BRICS+ International Cities Forum

June 21, 2024

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants of the International Forum of Cities of BRICS+ Countries, which opened in Kazan.

The message reads, in part:

“The participating heads of local governments, mayors of cities and towns from countries aligned with the philosophy and practical policies of the BRICS association will discuss a wide range of professional issues, exchange experience, and establish new contacts. I believe this type of networking is very important and highly beneficial for city leaders, because the steady and progressive development of urban areas and municipalities largely depends on their effective work. This, in turn, is crucial for improving the quality of life of millions of people and comprehensively strengthening our countries’ capabilities.

I would like to note that the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities will be inaugurated during the forum. Establishing this new task force, which will be guided by the principles of mutual respect, equality and constructive cooperation, is a major step in further strengthening ties between the BRICS member states and their partners. In particular, this will help us address such common goals as improving legislation and training personnel, modernising housing and utilities services, enhancing transport and social infrastructure, implementing humanitarian programmes, as well as architecture and landscaping projects, nature protection, digital transformation and tourism. And, of course, the expansion of the sister city movement holds great potential.

I am confident that the forum will give a start to new promising initiatives, and the recommendations and proposals developed during the discussion will serve to deepen multifaceted relations that will benefit our nations.”
