In the Trinity Cathedral of the Lavra, Vladimir Putin bowed to the Holy Trinity icon by Andrei Rublev, which was delivered from the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on June 22, on the eve of the Orthodox holiday of the Holy Trinity.
Icon painter Andrei Rublev painted the Holy Trinity in the first hall of the 15th century for the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral at the request of Nikon of Radonezh, a disciple and successor of St Sergius of Radonezh. The image is considered a paragon example of artistic expression of the Christian doctrine of the Coessential and Triune God.
