Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants, organisers and guests of the conference of the Russian Union of Rectors.
The message reads, in part:
“The Russian Union of Rectors is rightfully recognised as a prominent and authoritative public organisation that brings together over 700 leaders of the country’s top higher education institutions. In recent years, it has played a crucial role in preserving and advancing the finest traditions of national higher education and has been instrumental in effectively implementing state scientific and educational policies.
It is encouraging that you prioritise enhancing university education, improving its accessibility and competitiveness, updating relevant legislation, and fostering the spiritual, moral, and patriotic upbringing of young people. Undoubtedly, strengthening international humanitarian cooperation remains one of the key focuses of the Union’s efforts.
I want to stress that the higher education system represents our significant intellectual resource. It is crucial for universities, academies, and institutes to boost their scientific capabilities, serving as hubs for both fundamental and applied research, the development of cutting-edge technologies, and as genuine intellectual drivers for key sectors of the economy. Additionally, it is essential to support talented and ambitious scientists, educators, and mentors, whether they are Russian or foreign, and create environments that encourage them to pursue careers within our universities.
I am confident that your conference will be conducted in a productive and constructive manner, and its decisions and recommendations will undoubtedly be sought after.”
