Vladimir Putin congratulated current and former employees of Directorate A (Alpha Group) of the Federal Security Service’s Special Operations Centre on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
The message reads, in part:
“You rightfully take pride in the heroic past of the directorate and fashion your work after the work of its former employees and your senior combat comrades who are professionals of the highest order. The legendary Directorate A employees have always honourably performed their assignments and displayed fortitude and courage, the ability to act effectively and collectively, and to win in the most challenging critical situations.
Importantly, the current generation of Alfa Group employees is carrying on the hard-fought traditions of their predecessors, keeping the sacred memory of their fallen friends and loyalty to the military brotherhood, and making a significant contribution to fighting terrorism and ensuring Russia’s security and national interests.”
