In his message the President noted that Juan Antonio Samaranch has always been a true bearer of the Olympic Movement spirit and has done much for its development around the world.

Juan Antonio Samaranch has always been a good friend to our nation, and his death is a loss not only for those connected with the Olympic Movement, but also for all Russian people, Dmitry Medvedev noted.

Mr Medvedev also sent a telegram to Jacques Rogge, current president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
