Telephone conversation with President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic

October 20, 2024

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.

The two leaders exchanged greetings on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from Nazi occupation. On this day in 1944, the Soviet Army completed the Belgrade strategic offensive operation, which involved units of the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia. This was one of the key events in the final stage of World War II in the Balkans.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral ties, which are based on spiritual, cultural and historical affinity, as well as unanimity in their assessments of the past and present. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation across the board.

Aleksandar Vucic thanked Vladimir Putin for Russia’s principled approach to ensuring the territorial integrity of Serbia.

The discussion also focused on the situation around Ukraine. Vladimir Putin offered his assessment of the progress of the special military operation.

Both leaders agreed to continue to maintain personal contacts.
