Vladimir Putin had a meeting with Maria Kostyuk who was appointed Acting Governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region by a presidential executive order.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Ms Kostyuk, I am aware that for about eighteen months you have been combining duties as Deputy Director of the Higher School of Public Administration at the Russian Academy of National Economy with your work at the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation. Regrettably, these circumstances arose following the tragic loss of your son who perished while honourably serving his military duty during the special military operation. Firstly, I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to you for nurturing a true Russian warrior. Andrei gave his life not only in the line of duty but also by safeguarding the retreat of his fellow soldiers, using his vehicle – and indeed, himself – to save their lives. It is for this reason he has been rightfully awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
I extend my thanks to you for the upbringing of your son and for your contributions to the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation as I am aware of your dedication to the young people as if they were your own.
Your entire life has been connected with the Far East. You were born in the Jewish Autonomous Region where you pursued your education, and your professional journey has remained connected to the Far East, specifically the Jewish Autonomous Region, where you advanced to the role of Deputy Prime Minister of this constituent entity.
I would like to propose that you return to your native region to assume the leadership of it.
Maria Kostyuk: Mr President, I am sincerely grateful and appreciative of this trust. It is both an unexpected and significant responsibility for me.
I shall endeavour to the utmost, indeed, I might add ”and beyond,“ to earn your confidence, to honour the memory of my son who loyally served the Fatherland, and, of course, to be worthy of my country. In straightforward Russian, may God forbid that I should fail you and the people of my home region.
Vladimir Putin: The region is indeed of great interest. You are more familiar with it than anyone else, having lived and worked there from birth. I reiterate, you ascended to the position of Deputy Prime Minister. Thus, you are well-versed in the strengths and potential opportunities of the region, as well as the issues that require resolution for the benefit of its people.
I wish to extend my best wishes to you. You may always rely on the assistance and support of the Government of the Russian Federation, and, naturally, my own support.
I wish you every success.
Maria Kostyuk: Thank you.
