Greetings on the Russian premiere of “People of Christ. Our Time”

December 3, 2024

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the team that made the film “People of Christ. Our Time,” and guests attending its Russian premiere.

The message reads, in part:

“Created by our Serbian friends, this film is a documentary record of the tragic developments in Ukraine, which involved mass-scale violations of the rights and religious freedoms of millions of people, real outrages against historical memory, and the persecution of the Orthodox Church by the Kiev regime.

I know that the film’s world premiere, which was held in Belgrade in September of this year, has evoked a massive public response. After all, no one can remain indifferent to the honest, first-person reflections on current events shared by priests, writers and poets, teachers, TV presenters and young people from different countries, such as Serbia and Italy, Russia and Ukraine. Importantly, an increasing number of people worldwide are becoming aware of the true causes of the Ukraine conflict unleashed by Western elites. They understand that there is no, nor will there ever be, any justification for the crimes committed against peaceful civilians, for ethnic and religious cleansing, terrorist attacks and punitive operations organised by neo-Nazis. It is highly significant that the film gives us hope and confidence that we will be able to meet any challenges, provided we maintain solidarity and remain committed to the traditional spiritual and moral values bequeathed to us by our ancestors.”
