Greetings to 47th Moscow International Film Festival

April 17, 2025

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants, organisers and guests of the 47th Moscow International Film Festival.

The message reads, in part:

“I am happy to welcome you to the opening of the 47th Moscow International Film Festival. This year it is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people and our allies in the Second World War.

The Moscow International Film Festival is renowned for its hospitable atmosphere, fascinating and rich history, as well as unique traditions. The masters of cinematography considered it an honour to present their new works here, and for some, the festival opened the doors to a great cinematic life. The inclusion of a film in the Moscow Film Festival programme became a kind of quality mark for film lovers all over the world.

It is gratifying to note that the range of participants is expanding geographically. This year, film-makers’ applications came from 50 countries. This is the best proof that culture has been and remains a space for dialogue, serving to strengthen friendly ties and increase mutual understanding between peoples.

We all know the remarkable film Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears. I would like to add, though, that Moscow does believe in talent and in the powerful creative force of art.”
