On the sidelines of the 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum, President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, who is in Russia on an official visit.
The Russian delegation at the meeting included Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, and First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who also serves as Chairman of the Russian side of the Russian-Indonesian Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation.
The consultations continued in the business breakfast format with members of the two countries’ delegations.
Pressing issues of Russian-Indonesian political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as the main topics of the regional and global agenda were discussed.
Following the talks, Vladimir Putin and Prabowo Subianto adopted the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Indonesia. In the presence of the leaders of the two countries, a ceremony was held to exchange documents signed during Prabowo Subianto’s official visit to Russia.
The signed documents include: an agreement between the relevant agencies on cooperation in higher education, memorandums of understanding and cooperation in transport, information and communication technologies, and the media, as well as the memorandum of understanding between the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Danantara, Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund.
The heads of state also made statements for the media.

The beginning of the meeting with President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr President, friends. I am happy to welcome you to St Petersburg.
We previously met in Moscow before your inauguration, and now, during your official visit, we have the opportunity to discuss our bilateral relations in greater detail.
Tomorrow, we will participate in the plenary session of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, where you will be our guest of honour. This forum has long served as a valuable platform, bringing together a wide range of entrepreneurs and political leaders from around the world.
Our relations with Indonesia are steadily advancing, with trade turnover on the rise and strong prospects across several key and promising areas of cooperation. These include agriculture, space exploration, energy, and military-technical cooperation. The scope of our partnership is substantial and continues to expand.
Indonesia is now a full-fledged member of BRICS, and we very much hope − in fact, I am sure of it − that Indonesia will contribute significantly to the development and work of this organisation, which is becoming more and more influential in international affairs.
We are very pleased to see you, Mr President. Welcome.
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto (retranslated): Thank you very much.
Mr President, first of all, allow me to express my sincere gratitude and deep appreciation, on behalf of our entire delegation, for the warm welcome and the excellent organisation of this visit.
Mr President, I would also like to thank you for the meeting we had prior to my official inauguration as President of the Republic of Indonesia. I am truly pleased that I now have the opportunity to make my first official visit in my new capacity. I am also grateful that you sent a high-level representative to attend my inauguration.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our profound appreciation to the Russian Federation for supporting Indonesia’s full membership in BRICS in such a short timeframe. Of course, I had very much hoped to attend the summit in Kazan in person, but it took place just one day after my inauguration, when I had to oversee the formation of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Relations between our two countries are developing very actively. Over the past year, if I am not mistaken, I met twice with Mr Manturov in Jakarta and once in St Petersburg. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs has also visited the Russian Federation three times in less than a year, within just the past eight months.
We attach great importance to strengthening cooperation with the Russian Federation across a wide range of sectors, particularly in trade and the economy, but also in other areas, including the conclusion of bilateral agreements. We are also paying close attention to advancing the Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union.
Once again, I would like to thank you for the kind invitation to attend the St Petersburg International Economic Forum as a guest of honour.
Vladimir Putin: Thank you very much.
