Greetings on Shipbuilder’s Day

June 29, 2025

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to current and retired workers of the shipbuilding industry on their professional holiday, Shipbuilder’s Day.

The message reads, in part:

“The development of shipbuilding has played a pivotal role in shaping Russia as a maritime power, opening up vast opportunities to strengthen its economic, industrial, defence, and scientific potential. The names and achievements of outstanding Russian shipbuilders have earned a lasting place in our nation’s history. Across design bureaus and shipyards from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok, highly skilled professionals have always worked to create a wide range of vessels: from warships to civilian ships of various kinds, including cargo, passenger, fishing, and research vessels.

Today, the shipbuilding industry is tasked with a number of large and timely objectives: modernising existing production facilities, establishing new ones, adopting advanced and competitive technologies, deepening international cooperation, and training qualified specialists. Achieving these goals is essential not only for defending Russia’s maritime borders, but also for ensuring a comprehensive and balanced development of our fleet. Particular emphasis must be placed on expanding the fleet of universal nuclear-powered icebreakers and ice-class vessels required to guarantee year-round navigation along the Transarctic Transport Corridor and the Northern Sea Route. I trust that the United Shipbuilding Corporation, alongside our other companies and enterprises, will make a meaningful contribution to this vital and systematic endeavour.”
