The discussion focused on the floods affecting Yakutia and other regions of Russia and the means to overcome the situation.

Mr Shtyrov reported to the President of the full implementation of all scheduled measures for countering floods. Nevertheless, this year the Lena River rose higher than usual hence additional efforts will be required to overcome the flood. Vyacheslav Shtyrov also reported that the local authorities cooperate closely with the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief and that assistance has been provided to those affected by the floods in the region and temporary shelters for them have been set up.

Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Viktor Ishayev reported to President Medvedev that the situation was closely followed in all regions of the Federal District where the threat of floods will remain until early June.

Dmitry Medvedev instructed the leadership of Yakutia and the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief to jointly prepare proposals on elimination of the floods impacts and to submit them to the Government. Besides, Mr Shoigu was instructed to maintain the personnel of the ministry in the area and, if necessary, to employ further technical means.
