On Defender of the Fatherland Day, Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden.
The President observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen soldiers. The national anthem of the Russian Federation was played.
Defence Minister Andrei Belousov and servicemen of the Defence Ministry and the Russian National Guard laid flowers at the tomb.
The event concluded with a guard of honour squad and a military band marching past the memorial.
