The President honoured the memory of the fallen in the Great Patriotic War by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin wall.
Taking part in the wreath-laying ceremony, dedicated to the 69th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, were Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov, President of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin, Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu, heads of other ministries and government agencies, war veterans and members of the public.
The ceremony was concluded with a solemn parade of the Moscow garrison troops.
June 22, the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, has been established as the Day of Memory and Grief by a presidential Executive Order.
