Dmitry Medvedev met at the Kremlin with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh, who is in Moscow on an official visit at the Russian President’s invitation.
The talks focused primarily on energy sector cooperation, especially geological exploration and oil and gas production.
Also discussed were the prospects for moving forward with joint projects in machine building, mining and telecommunications sectors, as well as Russian companies’ possible participation in building new and modernising existing power facilities in Vietnam.
Mr Medvedev and Mr Nong discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian sector: in culture, education, and personnel training.
The two leaders exchanged views on Russia’s and Vietnam’s partnership at the regional and international levels.
In an official ceremony the same day in the Grand Kremlin Palace, Mr Medvedev awarded Mr Nong the Pushkin Medal for his great contribution to forging closer cultural ties and exchanges between Russia and Vietnam, spreading the use and study of the Russian language, and preserving cultural heritage.
