Following the deaths of several children in the Azov Sea and other incidents, Dmitry Medvedev instructed Pavel Astakhov to audit jointly with the Presidential Control Directorate and the Prosecutor General’s Office the legislation concerning children’s vacationing.
President Medvedev noted that responsibility for safety at children’s summer camps lies not only with the counselors and administrators of the camps, but with local authorities as well.
Furthermore, the President of Russia made the decision to confer awards to sports teacher Vitaly Morozov, who drowned while trying to save the children in the Azov Sea, and Tatyana Demina, who saved two children but lost her daughter.
Six children and a camp counselor drowned while swimming at the Yeisk Spit in Krasnodar Territory in early July.
