The agreement is designed to deepen long-term cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in the gas industry and facilitate the creation of new refining capacities based at the Orenburg gas refinery, for processing gas extracted by Gazprom and other Russian organisations as well as from the Karachaganak gas condensate field in Kazakhstan.
The agreement was signed in Uralsk on October 3, 2006 and provisionally applied from that date.
