President of the People’S Republic of China Hu Jintao: Mr President,

First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Government and people, I want to thank you for your decision to visit China. Your visit is very important for our people.

I want to congratulate you once more on taking office as President of Russia. Your visit is the continuation and development of all the good work and initiatives already underway in relations between our countries.

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Mr President, I want to say once again how pleased I am at our meeting.

First of all, on behalf of the entire Russian leadership, I want to express our condolences over the tragedy that has taken place, and our hope that you will overcome the difficulties China faces today at this time of great sorrow.

I offer my sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. The Russian Federation is ready to provide all possible help and support for our Chinese friends. You can be assured that we will always be ready to help should the need arise.
