Concluding Remarks at Meeting of the State Council Presidium on Information and Communication Technology in the Russian Federation

February 16, 2006, Nizhny Novgorod

President Vladimir Putin: Dear colleagues,

All of us, as we have just heard, realise the importance of the issues we are discussing today.

I would like to thank Nikolai Vasilyevich Fyodorov for his work as head of the working group.

In conclusion, I would like to stress a point that has already been made on this and other occasions, and that is that the matter we are discussing today – the development and use of information technology – is one of the keys that will help us give a new quality to our economy. It will open up new development opportunities, modern development opportunities that will guarantee quality services for our population and economic growth for our country.

As we agreed, the results of our discussions today have formed the basis for a list of instructions to the government and the various ministries that has been drawn up. I will definitely add to this list other points that came up during our discussion today and I very much hope that all our colleagues here and all the other regional leaders will work in close contact with the federal government, the Economic Development and Trade Ministry, the Finance Ministry and the agencies responsible for high technology in general to introduce and develop in their own regions what we have been talking about here today, and to help the state authorities and the business community resolve the tasks we have before us in achieving innovative development of the Russian economy.

Thank you very much for your attention.

All the best.
