Meeting with Irina Gekht

March 18, 2025, The Kremlin, Moscow

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Ms Gekht, you are working in Zaporozhye.

Irina Gekht: Yes, for almost a year now.

Vladimir Putin: Almost a year. And from what I understand, you are working there quite confidently and effectively. Naturally, given the conditions in which people live there, everything is challenging. Nevertheless, work remains work. Judging by the results, you are generally succeeding. Perhaps not in everything – nothing ever works out entirely. But the essentials are progressing.

Prior to this, you worked in Chelyabinsk, correct?

Irina Gekht: Yes, previously in Chelyabinsk.

Vladimir Putin: As Deputy Governor?

Irina Gekht: Deputy Governor. I served under all governors there. I was also a member of the Federation Council and Deputy Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy. That experience proved useful, particularly regarding agriculture, especially after arriving in Zaporozhye. However, social policy has always been my priority. I aim to continue in this direction, introducing improvements and innovations, particularly in light of your instructions on rehabilitation and support for special military operation participants.

Vladimir Putin: Will you be heading to the North?

Irina Gekht: I will.

Vladimir Putin: The work there is different. Being the senior official is both an honour and a great responsibility, as it requires direct engagement with the population.

Irina Gekht: I am prepared, Mr President.

Vladimir Putin: Good.

You are well acquainted with that region – it represents one of the country’s critical resource bases.

Irina Gekht: Yes. Considering the Arctic Development Strategy, I believe this region will also form a cornerstone of our Arctic Zone development plans.

Vladimir Putin: Good. Thank you.
