Acting Head of the Komi Republic Rostislav Goldshtein reported on the socioeconomic situation in the region to the President.
Vladimir Putin suggested beginning the meeting with the matters that Rostislav Goldshtein considered a priority. According to the acting head of the republic, the implementation of objectives related to the special military operation remains a top priority. The Komi Republic has made good progress in this respect after introducing 30 support measures for its participants. More than 7,000 families of servicemen are under special supervision, with particular attention paid to households with children: 650 people received compensation for vacation and treatment expenses. Exemption from transport tax was granted to owners of 32,000 vehicles. Social and medical rehabilitation is being carried out.
Rostislav Goldshtein also reported on assistance provided to the sponsored territory of Rovenki in the Lugansk People’s Republic. A total of 2.2 billion rubles has been invested, leading to the construction of seven healthcare facilities, 50 educational institutions, and 19 public utilities. Caring citizens collected 352 million rubles in donations, which were directed toward purchasing equipment, machinery, medical supplies, and gifts for children.
As for the economy, Mr Goldshtein noted that export-oriented sectors such as oil and forestry companies were experiencing a decline. As a result, the republic faces a budget shortfall of approximately 9.9 percent, largely due to reduced profit tax revenues. Lower oil prices, fluctuations in the exchange rate of the dollar, and high interest rates are negatively affecting the situation. At the same time, there is a modest increase in mineral extraction.
President Putin pointed out that, despite these challenges, gross regional product indicators remain stable, and agricultural production continues to grow, even under harsh northern conditions.
Rostislav Goldshtein reported that the republic was purposefully engaged in agriculture, which he believes can be profitable even in the North. The growth in agricultural production accounted for 2.8 percent. Among the unique local products he highlighted were venison and Ust-Tsilemsky butter.
Vladimir Putin also highlighted growth in the construction sector. Mr Goldshtein confirmed growth of 15.3 percent in this field but raised several questions concerning the programme for relocation from dilapidated and hazardous housing. The President proposed reviewing the relevant documents.
