The President congratulated the meeting’s participants on the ratification by the Russian parliament and Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada of the Russian-Ukrainian agreement extending Russia’s lease of a naval base and presence of its Black Sea Fleet on Ukrainian territory for 25 years.
Mr Medvedev said this event will play an important part in settling a number of issues linked to both countries’ economic development.
The President said that Russia will continue building up its relations with Ukraine in a spirit of brotherhood, goodwill and pragmatism.
Taking part in the meeting were Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev, Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, and Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov.
