Vladimir Putin congratulated President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the country’s national holiday, Independence Day.
President Putin noted in his congratulatory telegram how symbolic it is that Belarus celebrates this holiday on the same day as the date commemorating the country’s liberation from Nazi occupation. Mr Putin also stressed that centuries-old fraternal ties of friendship and alliance between the two peoples have withstood many tests and are the guarantee today of developing a successful bilateral partnership.
The President underlined he is confident that implementing the agreements reached during the meeting of the Union State Supreme State Council in St Petersburg in March will help to advance the bilateral integration process, and expressed his commitment to continuing constructive work together in the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space in the aim of establishing the Eurasian Economic Union in 2015.
