Working visit by Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov to Germany

February 6, 2013, Berlin

Sergei Ivanov met with Chief of Staff of the German Chancellery Ronald Pofalla and Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the Federal Chancellor Christoph Heusgen.

Consultations between Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov and Chief of Staff of the German Chancellery Ronald Pofalla took place in Berlin. Meetings have been held regularly in this format since 2004 and play an important role in coordinating Russian-German cooperation in various fields. Such meetings have repeatedly proven their relevance and effectiveness.

Mr Ivanov and Mr Pofalla discussed crucial issues on the extensive Russian-German bilateral agenda, including high-level contacts planned for later this year. Despite the parliamentary elections that will be held in Germany in September 2013, the agenda of Russian-German political dialogue will remain as rich and varied as always. The reciprocal national years in Russia and Germany continue to be implemented successfully. In particular, Russia will act as Germany’s main partner country at the Hannover Industrial Fair in April 2013, and Germany will be the guest of honour at the St Petersburg Economic Forum, scheduled for June.

During their talks both parties noted the positive development of trade and economic relations between Russia and Germany within the framework of the Partnership for Modernisation initiative that holds strategic importance for both countries. Major joint investment projects in energy and mechanical engineering are being implemented, and there are no serious problems that could affect further expansion of cooperation between large and medium businesses.

Meeting participants also discussed current issues on the European and international agendas, as well as developments in international finance and economics, including in the light of preparations for the G20 summit to be held in St Petersburg in September 2013 during Russia’s presidency.

Sergei Ivanov also had a brief conversation with Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the Federal Chancellor Christoph Heusgen.
