Telephone conversation with leader of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party Narendra Modi

May 23, 2014

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Narendra Modi, leader of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won the recent Indian general election.

The President congratulated Mr Modi on his election victory and nomination to the post of Prime Minister of India. Both leaders noted the continuity of traditionally friendly Russian-Indian ties, which have been developing steadily based on the Declaration on Strategic Partnership.

Mr Putin and Mr Modi confirmed their mutual desire to continue building up all-round relations in trade and the economy, science and technology, humanitarian contacts and other areas, and effectively coordinate work on key international issues, including through multilateral organisations such as the UN, G20, BRICS and others.

Mr Putin and Mr Modi discussed plans for top-level contacts.
