Dmitry Medvedev, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev will meet on November 18 in Moscow

November 11, 2011

The heads of the Customs Union member states will discuss current issues of integration in the Eurasian region pending entry into force on January 1, 2012, of a package of treaties forming a Common Economic Space between the three nations.

The meeting agenda includes current issues of operation of the  Customs Union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, based on which a common customs territory was formed on July 1, 2011. Cooperation within the Customs Union is already bringing concrete results. The agreed upon forms of state control have been moved to external borders of the Customs Union, and a common system of customs rules and regulations has been put in place. As a result, mutual turnover within the Customs Union grew by nearly 40 per cent in the first half of 2011.

Particular attention will be given to joint efforts to move on to the next phase of integration, the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as issues of improving supranational bodies managing the integration processes.

During the trilateral meeting, many documents of fundamental significance for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation are to be signed.
