Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has appointed Viktor Kiryanov to the post of deputy interior minister responsible for security in the transport system and at transport infrastructure facilities.

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: As you know, I issued a number of extensive instructions recently concerning transport security. These instructions are being carried out now and I expect reports from the Government and the law enforcement and security agencies very soon.
But without waiting for this work to be completed I think we need further steps to optimise the Interior Ministry’s work in security and law enforcement in the transport system, and so I have decided to create the post of deputy interior minister specifically responsible for this area, and have appointed Colonel-General Viktor Kiryanov to this job.
Mr Kiryanov was previously responsible for road traffic safety and has the transport sector knowledge required to organise this work throughout the entire national transport system, not just on the roads, but in rail, air, and water transport too.
So, please get down to work, and after the first few weeks, present to me a detailed report on what needs to be done, and the Minister should give all the relevant instructions within the Ministry.
Let’s get to work!
