Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev and Deputy Prime Minister – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev held a meeting of the Maritime Board, via videoconference, on defending Russia’s national interests in the Arctic.
The meeting’s agenda included matters related to ensuring navigation along the Northern Sea Route and developing the rescue and emergency response infrastructure in the Russian Arctic zone. Participants devised additional measures to develop the search-and-rescue fleet and its bases, as well as to produce navigation equipment and provide aviation support.
There was a special emphasis on interagency cooperation on navigation safety, resulting in a set of objectives to ensure safe navigation in the waters of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor.
Ahead of the meeting, Nikolai Patrushev travelled to the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, where he discussed efforts to develop the Sabetta seaport and Yamal LNG. In addition, the Presidential Aide held a meeting on using the Ob-Irtysh river basin and upgrading infrastructure at the Salekhard riverport.
Participants in the meeting also articulated proposals on developing a comprehensive approach to territorial development by coordinating efforts to enhance the transport sector, manufacturing and ensuring a higher standard of living for local residents.
